Solaris Password Length

I'm trying to find out if there is a way to get Solaris to accept more
than 8 character passwords. The setting in /etc/default/passwd lets me set
any length password I want. Solaris will only look at the first 8
characters. Is there some setting I'm missing? We'd like to go up to 12
character passwords where it requires all 12 characters to be entered.
