Upgrading and tuning.

I have two questions to ask you.
1) One of my customer wants to upgrade his SS20. It's running with informix
DBMS and their custom application developed with cobol. And OS is quite
old (2.5.1) My question is, is it possible to upgrade from old one to new
machine with new OS while their application and informix have untouched?
That is if we upgrade to new machine with new OS can we go with old
cobol application with no re-compile and no-reinstallation of informix?
2) I have a E5500 with SunOS 5.6 system needing some care of performance
tuning. But I don't have any formal experience to do with. Is there any
standard operating procedure to tune a system?
