I am planning to buy a console server for our production data center. Our company is a small company. In our development data center we set up a console server using a 8-port serial port card on a windows box. I had to make custom cables/connectors for different kinds of boxes. It was real pain dealing with this stuff and nothing standardized. The main problem caused because of that the 8-port card was DTE rj-45 connectors. This time I want to buy some console server/switch which should be easy to install and most important NO CUSTOM CABLE/CONNECTORS for all the Sun servers. Under $1000 would be good because my manager need not go through approvals office.
