root has no shell!

Thanks to all. I (literally) had over 50 responses. All had the same idea.

I had to boot from Solaris cdrom and start the installation (my root partition

had become corrupted, preventing me from fscking and mounting on /a).

After entering the system setup info, when asked whether to begin install,

I chose to exit, allowing me to mount the boot dev and edit passwd file.
