clearing connections

My original question asked about clearing connections left open
on port 119 after killing news.
Most replies said that the only solution was to reboot (which is
what was done...:(
A few people said I killed news incorrectly, causing the half open
connections. Maybe, but I doubt it, as always use the same script
to kill all nntplinks, innxmits, and nnrpd's, and have never had this
problem before.
Finally, someone suggested trying pmadm/sacadm to disable/enable
the service. I'll look into this if it happens again...
