Summary: Logging FTP access

suggest to try ptoftpd.
I'll try them both. I also got back one of those waste-of-bandwith replys
that show up periodically.
I'm including that one at the tail-end for your amusement.

I have a need to log FTP connections, like who logged in to what site and
sent/received what files. Going thru the archives, it looks like
"wu-ftpd" was the choice in the past. Is that still the recommendation ?
Anyone know where I can get a copy of this for Solaris 7 ? I pulled down
a Solaris 8 version from sunfreeware.com and it installed okay
on my Solaris 7 system but I haven't tried using it yet. Do you'all think
the Sol-8 version will work on Sol-7 ?

We went through the same process a few months ago for our external
ftp server, and decided on proftpd (www.proftpd.org), as it's easy
to configure, fully loggable, and free. We use it on Solaris 7, with
numerous separate chrooted accounts.

You can get a package version at:

WU-FTP : Setup secure anonymous ftp, more control over user-ftp
Main Site:
ftp://ftp.wu-ftpd.org/pub/wu-ftpd/
ftp://ftp.vr.net/pub/wu-ftpd/ (mirror)
Patches:

FAQ: http://www.cetis.hvu.nl/~koos/wu-ftpd-faq.html
Tutorial: http://www.wildheart.org/wu-ftpd/
Email list support: wu-ftpd at wugate.wustl.edu
Resource Site: http://www.landfield.com/wu-ftpd/ (anon ftp scripts)
But I would recommend downloading the source and doing a bit
of configuration first. This package takes a bit of time to
install, but it's well worth it to make things more secure.
But first, you can modify what gets logged in /etc/syslog.conf
(and see man page for syslogd and syslog.conf); you can probably
use the Solaris ftpd program and just modify the logging. Also
see man page for ftpd.

Oh, come on. Give it a try first, BEFORE you pester the list with your
lack of self-confidence. IF it doesn't work, build your own. Need to
find it? Try searching first, eh?
