nis maps w/HPUX nis maps

HI admins,

How does Solaris nis maps interact with HPUX nis maps.

Specifically I have a project to implement nis on solaris and hpux in our
enterprise.

Solaris uses the /etc/shadow with asterisk in the passwd field ,where HPUX
has the crypted passwd in the passwd field.

How is this due able ...?
