root login does'nt work anymore

I have a Sun ultra 5 sparc server running solaris 8 with kernel
117350-39. since yesterday it's not possible to log on into root from
any user (how are in the root group).
On the other hand, it's still possible to log on root directly on the
server.
Have you ever seen this problem?
