Regarding "ls" problem

I am running solaris 5.7 on sparc platform. When I try
to give the "ls" command to list a particular folder
which has a huge number of files the "ls" command
fails to display the list. where in if the folder has
a few files it is getting displayed properly. Is this
the limitation of the "ls" command or is there any
patch for this. Can you please let me know.
