Sendmail spam filters

I'm trying to configure sendmail 8.9.2 under Solaris 8 to filter spam using
the MAPS Realtime Blackhole List servers for spam address updates. I've
used m4 to reconfigure the sendmail.cf file, but I'm not getting a response
from their servers.
I've changed the old address: http://maps.vix.com in the m4 files to the new
one: blackholes.mail-abuse.org, but still no luck.
Is this the best poption for controlling spam on a Solaris mail server, or
should I be looking for fomething else?
