The file /etc/defaultrouter causes X problems

2007-12-25 10:50:00

Had many response to my problem.

Most cited that the format of the /etc/defaultrouters file was incorrect.

Should have been one line containing the ip address to route to.

My problem turned out to be with the /etc/resolv.conf file. The DNS server

address had changed. A bad entry in this file was the cause of the X issue.

Thanks to all who replied.

Subject: The file /etc/defaultrouter causes X problems

System Managers,

Running Solaris 2..7 on a Sun Ultra.

If I set up a default route, via /etc/defaultrouter, the system boots, but X

will not start. Get the following messages

in /var/dt/Xerrors.

Fri Aug 4 11:12:10 2000

error (pid 355): Hung in XOpenDisplay(:0) attempt #1, aborting.

Fri Aug 4 11:12:10 2000

error (pid 355): Server open attempt #1 failed for :0, giving up

The system appears to work except for X. I can telnet in and out of the

box.

There is only one line in the /etc/defaultrouter file.

machine_to_route_outside_requests_to ipaddress_of_the_machine

If I remove the file /etc/defaultrouter and reboot, X works fine, but of

course

I can no longer get to the outside world. I can of course always ping

machines

on my local network regardless if the defaultrouter file exists or not.

Have reconfigured several times using /usr/sbin/unconfig.

Any ideas on this one?

Thanks,

Jack
