Disksuite problems

I've got a problem. I have an E220R, 2 GB RAM, 18 GB HD, Solaris 8. with SDS 4.2.1, with latest patches, is having problems. I can setup the state databases with
# metadb -a -f c0t0d0s5
etc.
I can setup the submirrors with:
# metainit -f d10 1 1 c0t0d0s0
etc.
But when it comes to mirroring the submirror with the primary mirror, I get this:
# metainit d0 -m d10
metainit: hostname: d0: Inappropriate ioctl for device.
Any thoughts on what's going wrong? The one summary in the archives I did see wasn't the same situation as mine. Thanks!
