A much bigger NIS problem...
2007-12-25 0:34:00
i seem to be unable to log into my client any more at all.... the
nsswitch.conf file lists the following:
passwd files nis
but i'm unable to log into it any more! Shortly before this happened i decided
to share the shadow map as well as the passwd map (cos this is why NIS logins
weren't working).
After i kicked the NIS server to make it share the shadow map as well, i checked
it by typing 'ypwhich -m' on the NIS server, and sure enough... it listed the
maps as usual.
I then logged into the NIS client, and typed 'ypwhich -m', but received the
following error:
bash-2.03# ypwhich -m
ypwhich(dumpmaps): can't get maplist: RPC: Unable to receive; errno =
Connection refused; System error
bash-2.03#
So i restarted the ypbind process, and the rpcbind process, and ran 'ypwhich -m'
again. This time it took ages to do absolutely nothing.
I hit 'Ctrl + C' and went back to the server to check again... the NIS server
*was* running ok. i then tried to log back into the client, and couldn't:
hobbs at turnip:~$ ssh emonster
Connection closed by 192.168.254.100
hobbs at turnip:~$
I assume this is cos it cannot access the NIS server for some reason. Am i going
to have to wait until i get home to sort this out 2nite? i can't seem to log
into my client any more at all, thru ssh or telnet.
Oops.
Thanks,
Richard.
