I ended up doing the following, not sure if all this was needed but it's
now working
% devlinks
% devfsadm
% ifconfig -a plumb (This then displayed the new adapters qe0 qe1 qe2 qe3,
it is a 4 port card so this was pretty good confirmation I was on the
right lines)
% ifconfig hme0 down unplumb
% ifconfig qe0 w.x.y.z netmask 255.255.y.z broadcast w.x.y.z up
for completeness I then did mv /etc/hostname.hme0 /etc/hostname.qe0
So far no one has mentioned a qe network device... don't ask me what it
is, all I know is that we traded it for a pint of beer.

Hi all.
I've got an Ultra 1 running Solaris 8 on which the on board network
interface has died. I've managed to get hold of an sbus network card,
which judging by the lights on the hub it's connected to is working fine.
However I'm at a complete loss as to how to find out what this new device
is called. I've done a boot -r but that hasn't added anything to /dev.
One of my colleagues has said that he believes a makedev command needs to
be used but I've no idea what syntax to feed it.
Can anyone help?
