A practical way to have more power outlets on Sun Cabinets
2007-12-24 21:36:00
I'm asking your sugestions hoping that you already found an elegant way to
solve this:
Sun sell 72'' cabinets in which a broad range of equipments from Sun are
supported. For example, you can install up to 40 Netra t1 machines to form a
nice computing farm. However, the problem I got is that The Sun 72'' cabinet
only got 2 power sequencers each with 6 power cords for a total of 12 power
cords.
If I want to supply power to more equipments in that cabinet I have to
extend the number of power outlets by placing inside the cabinet power
extenders each with 6-8 power outlets. This is the best way to build
"spagetti" inside the cabinet and I hope you found a more elegant way to
solve this problem (maybe using "Y" cables ?). If you do, please share with
us ! I already checked and the total power used by the 40 netras is within
the range supported by power seqencers, so there is no danger of overload. I
still have to check if 40 netras in a rack with Sun Fans installled on top
does not overheat. But with Sun hype that you can put 40 of them in the same
rack for best floor usage, this should work.
Best Regards,
George DONE
