Problem cloning a disk using different bus-systems

2007-12-24 21:34:00

Hello!

I have an installation of Solaris 8 made on an U10 (i.e using IDE-disks). This
installation has been ufsdumped to tape.

I booted a new Sun-Fire-280R on Sol 8 CD, partitioned one of the FC-AL disks,
created filesystems, and made the ufsrestore. And then I executed "installboot
/usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0". So far
so good.

When rebooting it panics with the following error message:

ok boot -v

As far as I understand it finds the kernel and loads it but when it tries to
mount the root file system it cannot find it.

I have installed the maintenance update for Sol 8 4/01 (using 2 CD-ROMs) with
no result.
I have also used the scheme used by Marcelino Mata when cloning FC-AL-disks
(http://www.codeprof.com/pipermail/codeprof/2001-March/002201.html) with
no result.

SUNWfctl and SUNWfctlx are installed.

probe-scsi-all shows this output:
LiD HA LUN --- Port WWN --- ----- Disk description -----
0 0 0 21000004cf2ffaa1 SEAGATE ST336605FSUN36G 0438
1 1 0 21000004cf27dbd8 SEAGATE ST336605FSUN36G 0438

when I look in the directory (on the root disk) called
/devices/pci at 8,600000/SUNW,qlc at 4/fp at 0,0 all device files starts with ssd@ -
not disk@ (see the panic message above).

Is there anybody who has a clue on this one?
