Problem in DNS

I m facing a problem in DNS lookups ,I m running BIND 8.2.2-P5 on Solaris 8
platform my server is SUN Fire 280R ,my DNS's response time is slow it takes
atleast 2 or 3 tries to resolve a domain name to ip address ,sometimes it
replies immediately but some times its very slow ,commonly used sites like
sun.com and others are also slow responding ,I think my opinion is it not
caching the DNS queries ,can any one of u tell me how to improve its
performance.,I have also upgrade BIND's version on another machine but the
result is same
some says that its OS problem ,shifting it to Linux will solve this problem
,kindly advice me also on this as well that shifting my DNs on LINUX will
solve it or
waiting for your helpful replies
