Problem installing Sol 8 on Ultra 5

The Openwindows install failed with a message about the
network interface and a core dump mentioned in the install
console.
Installing from a text console worked but said that it
couldn't configure the desired address on a network
interface. I followed the instructions and
didn't configure an address and completed the install.
Now on reboot the box hangs with the message "Can't find
driver for console framebuffer".
Is Solaris 8 (2/02) not compatible with this hardware ? I
searched for relevant information on Sun's site and I
asked Mr. Google but no information was forthcoming. I
hope sun managers will rise to the challenge as usual.
