serial port access solaris 8/9 x86

I am attempting to access two solaris 8 and 9 boxes via a serial
console. These are IA boxes with a db 9 serial interface. My goal is
to have this console on a portmaster for network access to the console.
I am used to linux/freebsd where one just spawns getty on the
appropriate device. Could someone point me to any documentation? I
looked around docs.sun.com, but could not find anything.
I know w/ x86 I won't see boot messages but I want to be able to login
for single user mode events, and normal logins for stuff like restarting
sshd, etc.
