DLT-4000 problem

Dear Pundits,
i am facing a h/w problem in dlt-4000 (attached with
E-450). dlt is indicaticating "use cleaning cartridge" when i put cleaning
cartridge it goes off.so i think the drive is ok .. as soon as i put data
drive
the cracking sound comes and the " use cleaning tape"
lits again. i
am not sure whether it is dlt problem or dlt problem.. pl. help me regarding
the matter.
