backup won't end....

I have a daily backup job which the tar process will never ends.... In the early morning when another backup job want to start, it failed with device busy. I have run a truss on the process and have the following : -

getdents64(5, 0x00058770, 1048) (sleeping...)

Any idea why the backup job won't end ?
