problem with .forward

I am facing some problem with .forward.
I created a file called .forward in my unix home directory.
But it is not forwarding my mails to the id in the .forward file.
Only the user himself getting the mails.
Problem and the setup
1 .forward file on ~home , login id is web
-rw-r--r-- 1 web staff 22 Sep 6 06:35 .forward
2 .forward file contains the correct mail Id.
3 sendmail version
Sendmail SMI-8.6/SMI-SVR4
4 using netscape 4.7 client to get the mails
5 patch leval in mail server is
SunOS 5.6 Generic_105181-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10
6 patch level on client
SunOS 5.7 Generic_106541-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80
Can anybody give some inputs on this.
