Solaris 7 NIS master will not boot.

I have a domain of eight Solaris 7 computers that are bugging out majorly.

Here's what happened:

Last night when SSHing into one of the workstations it wouldn't let me log
in. It just hung after taking my password. I tried to log in on multiple
workstations both as a user and as root. It seemed like the root password
was changed. I logged in a couple hours later and everything was fine. When
I came in this morning the problem reoccurred. The hostname on the domain
master had been changed to "-i" and the root password was changed. I tried
to login in standalone mode but the password still didn't work. I took the
system down and restored from a tape made 4 days ago. I can boot now into
standalone and the root password is correct. Now when I boot it seems to
hang when going into run level 2. It hangs after the initializing IP address
for multicasting. All of the workstations now do this. It seems like a
problem with the domain master NIS server. I don't know how to debug this.
