Running a cluster with one node.

What are the ramifications of running a cluster with only one node? i.e.
If I were to shutdown and reboot the second node in non-cluster mode,
would the first node continue to function as normal, without having
failover capability? I'm just curious since we're in the process of
figuring out the best way to 'undo' a cluster from a pair of SunFire
280R systems, and this is a follow-on to a question I recently asked on
this list regarding removing a cluster.
