Original question: How to notify the system of any /etc/services

changes without a reboot?

Answer: Refresh the inetd daemon like:

# ps -ef |grep inetd

root 123 1 0 Oct 10 ? 0:09 /usr/sbin/inetd -s

# kill -HUP 123
