how to boot from a DiskSuite 4.2.1 mirror?

2007-12-24 21:13:00

I have a Sun X1 (2 IDE drives, yippee!) running Sol 8 with a mirrored pair
by SDS 4.2.1. A coworker wiped the root disk for some testing and now is
trying to boot from the remaining mirror disk. How can we do this
succesfully?

I don't have access to the downed box but he said his errors were:

Steps taken:

Tried 'boot disk2:a'
Box appeared hung at:
'Loading: /platform/SUNW,UltraAX-i2/ufsboot'

Simple disk swap in the case
Upon reload this box just hung at:
'Loading: /platform/SUNW,UltraAX-i2/ufsboot'

Built a netboot server for the X1/T1s
Netbooted to single user, appears the second drive needed to be
fsck'd
Upon completion tried step 1 again, same result.
Ran an installboot to make sure bootblk was setup on the drive,
rebooted, same result.

What I'm at now is the following:

Boot device: disk File and args:
Loading ufs-file-system package 1.4 04 Aug 1995 13:02:54.
FCode UFS Reader 1.11 97/07/10 16:19:15.
Loading: /platform/SUNW,UltraAX-i2/ufsboot
Loading: /platform/sun4u/ufsboot
Boot load failed.
Evaluating: boot disk2
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.
ok boot disk2:a
Boot device: /pci at 1f,0/ide at d/dad at 2,0:a File and args:

Can't open boot device

Device is there..

Anyone know a quick fix? I was going to suggest net boot and mount the
mirror and remove all the metadevice stuff in /etc/system and /etc/vfstab.

Thanks in advance,
