I forgot to say that:
- the master is running fine as other HP and Sun servers are configured as
NIS client
I'm only having troubles with this machine
- file /etc/nsswitch.conf has the proper config, i.e. file nis for passwd
and group lines:
passwd: files nis
group: files nis
- "ypcat -k passwd|grep login_name" works fine
- ypwhich returns the NIS master server name

I really don't see anything wrong in the configuration...

Subjec NIS: ypbind error

Dear Admins,

I'm having troubles setting up a solaris 8 machine as NIS client.
I followed the procedure and each command ran fine by I can't connect using
a login name which is in the NIS and I got the message below in log file
/var/adm/messages
Oct 20 17:01:22 <server_name> ypbind[18487]: [ID 379826 daemon.error]
service not installed, use /usr/sbin/ypinit -c

What I did:
domainname <NIS_DOMAIN_NAME>
ypinit -c
/usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypstart
ypwhich -m
The result is good

I've tried to find a solution on the internet but without any good result.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sabrina
