Northern Hemisphere / Southern Hemisphere monitors

2007-12-25 9:47:00

Hi all,

I received many excellent replies to this ( and a few from people who

thought I was joking.....maybe I didn't sound serious ;-) ).

It turns out that there is a difference between Southern Hemishere and

Northern Hemispere monitors which is necessary since the earth's magnetic

field is directed differently depending on which hemishere you are in.

Several people suggested turning a monitor upside down to see what the

effects of using it in the southern hemishere would be. I tried this with

a Sun 20" monitor and sure enough the colors all changed drastically (

blues turned to bright red!!).

The power in Australia is 240V 50HZ and it appears that most sun equipment

can handle this automatically or by moving a switch on the power supply.

Thanks to the following people for answering my questions:
