My original Question:

> the command -> /usr/lib/acct/accton file1

>

> the message -> /usr/lib/acct/accton: accounting is busy: cannot turn accounting

> ON.

>From the respondants I have learned that the following:

            I For GENERIC_SMALL kernel users.

 1) Accounting is not activated if you are using the

     GENERIC_SMALL kernel.

The kernel needs to be rebuilt with a line commenter removed:

Uncomment the line in the kernel's config file

              containing the SYSACCT info.

II For GENERIC_SMALL kernel AND full kernel users

  1) Uncomment this line in /etc/rc: # /usr/lib/acct/startup

  2) Put these lines in the root crontab file:

# system acct processes

0 * * * * /usr/lib/acct/ckpacct

0 1 * * 1-6 /usr/lib/acct/dodisk

0 2 * * 1-6 /usr/lib/acct/runacct 2> /usr/adm/acct/nite/fd2log

15 5 1 * * /usr/lib/acct/monacct

  3) Apply some patches for the ckpacct and runacct scripts.

(I am in the process of getting these from a respondant, and

will provide them to anyone who wants them)

  4) Reboot...
