Samba integration with Sun ONE Directory Server

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone on this list who's had Samba working
with Solaris for x86/Sparc in conjunction with Sun ONE/iPlanet Directory
Server or OpenLDAP for user authentication.

There are howtos on the web relating to different pieces of the puzzle,
but nothing that sets out all the steps clearly.

For starters, the version of Samba that ships with Solaris 9 doesn't
appear to have been compiled with support for LDAP and I'm unable to get
Samba 2.2.8a to compile on Solaris 9 x86.

I'll summarise...
