Hello every one,
We are running Netbackup 3.2 on a Sun 4500, Solaris 8 with 8GB ram 2GB =
used as shared memory, backing up 4000 unix clients. We are multiplexing =
clients with 32 on 8 STK 9840 tape drives hoping to achieve 256 Active =
jobs at one time. Buffers in Netbackup are set to 256KX16. We had no =
problems with multiplex by 16,. When trying to multiplex by 32 We notice =
about 50 clients of 4000 failes with netbackup error code 28 as in =
system failed to fork any more processes. According to Netbackup =
documentation, it has to do with over-loading the system, also message =
log indicate kernel warning with same problem. My question is, Is there =
a tunable paramaters that I can input in /etc/system to allow the Sun =
machineor Solaris 8 to fork a higher number of process, thus allowing us =
to push the machine to the max. For those of you who are not familiar =
with Netbackup software, Multiplexing is allowing Netbackup to backup =
multiple machines to 1 tape drive which require alot of shared memory =
and other tunings.
Our current /etc/system is as follows
* Configure Gigabit Ethernet
set ge:ge_lance_mode=3D0
set ge:ge_adv_1000autoneg_cap=3D0
set ge:ge_adv_1000fdx_cap=3D1

set msgsys:msginfo_msgssz=3D8
set msgsys:msginfo_msgtql=3D512
set msgsys:msginfo_msgseg=3D8192
Thanks in advanced for any help.
