Changing local root passwd on multiple machine

I would like to change my machines local root passwd. There are about 50
machines to be changed. Some are on NIS with a couple domain, some just
use /etc/passwd.
About 80% of machine run sshd.
Please suggest what should i do? any recommend script? security concern?
