Changing NIS server to Sol 2.6 breaks automounter
2007-12-24 19:10:00
We have had a legacy 4.1.3_U1 system acting as our NIS master, tried
to move master over to a 2.6 server and all the 2.6 clients failed
to mount home and application directories. No errors reported in syslog,
all the maps look sensible. There were problems reported with Sol 2.3/2.4
in a mixed environment in the archives, the solution then was to drop
the 4.1.3_U1 NIS slave completely. Due to network topology that isn't
an option for me just yet. All the automounter specific maps for direct
and indirect maps haven't changed, merely moved to the new master so
unlikely to be a problem with the actual setup. Changed back to 4.1.3_U1
as NIS Master and all is well. Couldn't find anything else useful in the
old archives and the 2.6 machines are pretty up to date WRT
NIS/automounter/kernel patches.
Any ideas?
Off topic:- I sent a query recently (Sendmail 8.8.8 (or 8.8.8+Sun)), no
summary posted yet as can only play with that at weekends and
have been busy elsewhere recently. I'll get around to that this weekend
hopefully then can summarise...
Cheers,
Stuart
