FC-100P fiberchannel card and Enterprise 420R
2007-12-24 21:20:00
I am trying to install an FC-100P card in a E420R. There seems to be
a sort of hardware incompatibility. I cannot initialise the card from
Open Boot.
Doing the same (with the same card) in an E450 works without
problems. I insert the card in a 64-bit 33/66 MHz PCI slot, it shows
up in "show-devs" and when I select it from OBP I see the attached
StorEdge T3.
I have tried putting the card in the only 33/66 MHz, 64-bit PCI slot
present in the E420R. The machine boots, and the card shows up if I
use the "show-devs" command in OBP. When I try to "select" it,
however, I have to wait about 30 seconds and it gives up; the error
message says that it cannot initialise the loop (FC, I assume). The
Fiberchannel LED in the back of the StorEdge T3 remains yellow until
the "select" operation is aborted; then it turns green. Repeating the
"select" command returns an error. In the E450, the select command
initialises the card without problems, the LED goes green in one
second and there are no errors.
What am I missing? I have not found any references to
incompatibilities between the E420R and the FC-100P. Is this a 420R
firmware problem? I was going to upgrade the FC-100P F-Code, but when
I was going to try it in the E-450, the upgrade tool said that the
version present in the card was 1.9, and the new version to be loaded
was also 1.9
I will summarize the answers
Thank you very much,
Borja Marcos.
