Changing the IP address of a NIS+ Server and ALL clients
2007-12-24 19:30:00
I know this topic has come up before but I having problems finding
anybody who has successfully done this without alot of bother.
My plan is as follows:-
Next thursday change the time to live on the nis+ caches to 1 hour. This
takes 12 hours to migrate so by friday I can begin with the clients.
For each rm NIS+ ; change ip settings and shutdown the system.
Eventually arrive at the server update the hosts table with all the new
addresses and then give it time to adjust the cache, 1 to 2 hours.
Change ip settings of the server and then shutdown prior to power up.
Boot each client and add to domain.
I have read the NIS+ FAQ but given my previous attempt following its
instructions failed I am looking for potential problems in this plan.
The FAQ suggests dumping the tables and then recreating which ignores
the pre-existing CACHE file.
Comments welcome, summary to follow.
