ttymon hangs

One of my Sun Soalris 8 was running very slow. When i ran top it was
showing ttymon process chewing up most of CPU. I killed it and things
were fine. After some days again the same issue. Is this ttymon process
being used for console? Can we disable this so that it won't have
problem in future with this process? If we disable will console will
work from console server?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
