SUMMARY: gcc and 64-bit

said version 3.x would do 64 bit compiling but not 2.x, and the other
half said gcc does not do 64-bit yet regardless of version. It was
mentioned that an alpha or beta version of gcc was being tested for just
this ability but current releases will not compile in 64 binaries.
I would tend to agree with this camp since my compile of lsof on Sol7 64
bit failed for a 64 bit binary (using gcc 3.02), but was successful for
a 32 bit binary.
Thanks.
