userid.lock file

any reference in the archives, sun site or FAQ, so
here goes.
First I'm running Solaris 2.6.
I have the following in my /export/home directory
drwxr-xr-x 4 1006 readonly 512 Apr 19 11:25
usera
-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 6 Jul 17 09:58
usera.lock
What does this mean and can I delete the .lock file
and the user directory with the standard rm commands
or do I have to somehow unlock the directory?
