hardware based raid

i am trying to implement h/w based raid on a new sun box we recently
bought: sunfire V890. sales guy recently told us that h/w raid is not
possible on this box, however we could try s/w raid. he said that we
should buy an external disk array which would be h/w raid...your
comments are highly apprecitated. thanks, abhimanyu.
