Strange /export/home problem

I have encountered a strange problem in /export/home
If I cd to /export/home and do an ls it show's nothing, if I then cd to
a users home dir I can get in there. If I do an ls -la .. it shows
nothing?
Heres an example....
# cd /export/home
# ls -la
total 0
# cd user1
# ls -la
drwxr-xr-x 3 user1 user1 512 Jul 23 11:04 .
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 512 Jun 30 10:38 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 124 Feb 23 14:00 local.cshrc
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 617 Apr 21 12:42 local.login
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 607 Feb 23 14:00
local.login.JASS.20040220105311
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 592 Feb 23 14:00 local.profile
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 582 Feb 23 14:00
local.profile.JASS.20040220105311
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 144 Feb 23 14:00 .profile
-rw-r--r-- 1 user1 user1 166912 Jun 23 11:55 saf.tar
-rw------- 1 user1 user1 3408 Jul 23 11:05 .sh_history
drwxr-xr-x 2 user1 user1 512 Jul 22 16:09 .ssh
# ls -la ..
total 0
Am I missing something here?
