missing md components on Sol9 x86

Just got this while setting up a RAID mirror:
# metadb -a -f -c 3 c0t0d0s3 c0t1d0s3
metadb: medusa: /dev/md/admin: No such file or directory
I gather that /dev/md/admin is supposed to be a link to
/devices/pseudo/md at 0:admin
That doesn't exist on the Solaris 10 system I am setting up mirroring on,
nor is there anything in /kernel/drv/ to do with md
Anyone here able to tell me what I am missing?
