Thanks to the following people for providing useful information on the
topic, after my original summary (enclosed):

Many pointed out that Sparc 20 does not have very good cooling, and 18GB 10K
rpm disks (Seagate especially) generate a lot of heat, hence it is safer to
use it as an external disk.
Bhaskar pointed out that if the internal scsi controller is narrow-scsi the
disk will work at the narrow-scsi speed and it will reduce-sync speed to
750rpm instead of 10k rpm
Bret Hester [bret_hester@hotmail.com] asked me to summarize how format.dat
affects format times. This was originally stated by Bismark
(bismark@alta.Jpl.Nasa.Gov), and I could not find any documentation to state
the relation between RPM and FORMAT TIME. Sun documented the relation
between RPM and filesystem creation (newfs) in docs.sun.com. To support
Bismark's statement, I would imagine that if higher RPM results in lower
seek times, then FORMAT TIME is consequently lesser. Along this line, given
the same conditions (same machine, same size of disk, etc) if someone has
tested format times of a 10K rpm disk and a 7200 RPM disk, please share your
findings. Thank you.

Answer: Yes.
Bismark pointed that /etc/format.dat should be modified for 10K RPM, which
has to do only with formatting time of the disk.
I am replacing the existing 4GB internal Seagate disk with a 18GB (Yes,
please check the Archive) 10K RPM Segate disk.
