Strange NIS-DNS behaviour on NIS slave server

2007-12-25 7:39:00

It seemes that the DNS queries will be done by the NIS masters

and not by the stations itself. That was not wat I expected.

The RTFM did reference this in a oneliner which slipped by my attention.

(In fact, page 500 of the 4.1.1 Sys&Net Adm guide pointed to this direction)

I thought that if NIS failed, the client itself does the query itself instead

of the servers.

When I runned ypset <goodnisserver> all went OK.

My resolv.conf files were all OK, but it was bogus on the

other slave server. I installed a correct one, rerunned ypserv on that slave

and the problem disappeared.
