Bringing a magnetic tape device online

noticed it a cron job ran attempting to access that device. The task failed, and
in the process brought the drive into an offline status. The tape for whatever
reason was not ejected like it normally does when entering offline status.
To eject the tape, I've used the following
mt -f /dev/rmt/0hbn offl
However, now when running that command I get the following message:
/dev/rmt/0hbn: no tape loaded or drive offline
The LED on the front of the drive itself labeled 'Tape' is no longer lit. The
button on the front used to manually bring the tape offline does not eject the
tape.
I've tried several relevant options of 'mt' but all reply the same message
above.
Rebooting the system will bring the drive back online.
Question: Is there a way to bring the drive back online so I can eject the tape,
or is there a way to manually eject the tape from the drive while it is in
offline status?
Mike
