Using windows/intel SCSI PCI cards with U5

Has anyone had any success using mass-market PCI SCSI HBA's such as the
Adaptec and Adaptec-clones in an Ultra 5? While Sun has three PCI SCSI
cards available for the U5 and U10, they are expensive! In doing some
research on the web, I have seen that people can get the OS to recognize
the card (it comes up in prtdiag), but can't see the disks via probe-scsi
or anything like that. Any ideas? Will summarize.
