How to update a release

WeB4ve been told that to run a specific driver, we have to have a release
equal or higher
than Solaris 09/04.
My /etc/release reads that IB4m running Solaris 04/02. What is the best way
to update the release?
Do I have to re-install Solaris from a CD using the update option? Or simply
applying the recommended patches
is enough?
