SUMMARY: [Q] need your suggestion to upgrade SUn server?
2007-12-24 19:35:00
1. Buy Compaq server like ED40/833. The performance very good.
2. Buy Fujitsu server which compatible to SUN
3. Don't use computer which are soon out of date
4. I/O is more important than CPU Mhz. More hard disk to increase
performance for ORACLE.
5. E450 can put 20 internal HD save money to purchs T3.
6. Make sure ORACLE 8i can run under SOLARIS 8, due to SUN 280R only run
under Solaris 8.
I don't think we will purchase other brand computer like Compaq or
Fujitsu. The reason is our engineers are so familiar with SUN
environment. In the future we may switch from "SUN" to "LINUX" and use
DELL or COMPAQ server (actually we are starting evaluate that). They are
cheaper and high performance.
About the T3 server. Base on SUn engineer told me, it is the highest
performance compare with other SUN RAID system. The RAID 5 configuration
performance even better than RAID 1.
As far as I know ORACLE 8.1.7 can run under Solaris 8.
Watch SUN Web site more closely. SUN tomorrow will annouce the new Ultra
III high end server. Those server will be 72 CPU STARfire level. SUN
midrange server like 4 cpu (E480?) will not be available until later this
year.
