difference between Stacker, Jukebox and Tape library

Thanks to many replies and specially to Matthew for his detailed explanation.

Also thanks to Neil, Matt & Andrie.

SUMMARY:

Stackers and Jukeboxes are subclasses of Tape Libraries.

A stacker sequentially steps through a "stack" of tapes. A true stacker has no concept of random accessing any tape within the library. Some jukeboxes (such as the DLT4700) can function as stackers by self-labotomizing their higher functions.

A jukebox is tape library that can randomly access any tape. This is similar to a music jukebox that can play songs in any order. Thus the carryover of the name.

Jeany.
