Logical IP Addresses

I create a lot of logical interfaces on my network cards via the ifconfig
command like the following:
ifconfig hme0 addif 172.20.2.90/24
I then go in and add the hostname.hme0:1 (or whatever the logical interface
is assigned) file to the /etc directory. I want to create a script that will
do these steps for me, does anyone know of a perl script or something that
could automate this process?
