Writing to a tape device using c-program or perl.

Dear all,

I need to write a program in C or perl ( want to learn C and perl). I have already written with shell script.

But i want to further below & make the program faster & more flexible.

COuld anyone pls let me know how can i do it with C and perl or C or perl:-)
